I’m still working on the script and have filmed only a few scenes, however this was the episode I was the most concerned with and here’s why. The location at which this episode will take place is on a Fire Fight map, and for those of you unfamiliar with these maps, you’re only allowed four players on them at once. I actually haven’t filmed those scenes yet so I may change my mind later on. However you can expect to see lots of action and humor in this next episode.

If you have seen the episode of Dragonball Z where the Saiyans come to earth and grow the Syibamen (spelling?) and everyone starts dieing then this episode will be similar to that only with a twist. Obviously everything is condensed, for the sake of the episode and the overall story, however I feel that Spartan Orb Z is lacking a lot of humor, so I’ll be stepping it up in this next episode.

So why is the first season so short? An easy question, if you don’t count the Garlic Jr. saga of Dragonball Z, the Sayian saga (the first season) was the shortest. Of course looking at Dragonball Z as a whole there are a lot of filler episodes where you get into some character development and such. My mind set was to keep Spartan Orb Z short and simple and really not make the series, as well as the overall story, complicated and long. If I remember correctly the first season of Dragonball Z was around 30 to 40 episodes. So slicing off a good chuck of those episodes was really a good call in my opinion because then I can keep pushing forward with different ideas for Spartan Orb Z. Think about it, you’re essentially getting all of those 30 to 40 episodes in six or seven. What?! That’s crazy! Condensed DBZ! I smell Dragonball Z Kai. [shifty eyes]

At this point in time, Spartan Orb Z is coming together nicely but slowly. I say that in a good way, not every show in my opinion starts out exactly what it’s intended to be. Don’t believe me? Watch the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Office, or Seinfeld. Then compare those early episodes to the episodes from a later season. This goes for virtually any TV show ever created, ever. Getting back on track with Spartan Orb Z, I think in time it will have a much more solid foundation. For now I’m really experimenting around and getting more of a feel of how I would like to proceed with it.

Really looking forward to the ending of the first season. I haven’t written the script yet, however I have a bunch of ideas of how Zageta reacts to Moku’s power being over 9000. Also the fight between them should hopefully be very action packed as well as humorous. No giant apes unfortunately. Sorry folks. However don’t be discouraged, who’s to say that Zageta won’t quadruple his size? That’s what she said?

Let me try and set the stage a little bit here. I recently graduated the Illinois Institute or Art in Schaumburg with a bachelors degree in Web Design and Interactive Media. I have a passion for both web design and motion graphics so I made sure to absorb as much knowledge and gain as much experience as I could while attending ILIS.

I’ve always been interested in film and motion graphics so I taught myself, before college, After Effects and Premiere. Through out college I created and worked on a stop motion series known as Superhero Muggs. Of course I didn’t really have enough time to promote and work on the series as much as I would have liked too, however I gained a lot of experience and knowledge from working on it.

After graduation I started thinking about doing another series. Stop animations took up way too much time, and I needed to be able to make a series that was easy to crunch out episodes while at the same time challenging my skills so that I may improve upon them.

After thinking a lot about what I wanted to do, I started looking at a lot of machinima web series. More specifically, Halo. It had, in my opinion, one of the best features for actually creating machinima. I knew I wanted to do a comedy but what could I do that hasn’t been done before? While playing around in Halo Reach I realized that a lot of the elements in the game could easily be interpreted as elements from Dragon Ball Z.

Dragon Ball Z, the greatest and yet most cliff hanging animes of all time. Lets stand around and yell and scream at each other for an entire five episodes. So many things to make fun of in that show, I just had to spoof it.

Thus Spartan Orb Z was born! And so began the long exciting process of creating the series.
